This recipe came from the people who just painted Mom's house. It contains uncooked egg, but I've never died from raw cookie dough, so I'm taking that chance :-). We cut way back on the sugar.
As written makes 3-4 quarts.
4 eggs
6 c. dairy [Mom used 4 c. cream and 2 c. half & half]
2 t. vanilla extract
1/4 t. salt
1 c. sugar
Use a hand mixer to beat eggs well in a large bowl.
Add dairy, vanilla, & salt. Continue beating - the mixture should start getting a texture like whipped cream (with the mix Mom used there was a fair amount of air beaten in, but not so much as plain whipped cream).
Slowly add sugar and continue to beat. Freeze in your grandad's old hand crank ice cream maker or whatever newfangled device you've got.
Serve with Chocolate Sauce (Gin Niehage's) in this section. |
