A restaurateur friend of Eugene's developed the Chocolate Shooter, a rum-based super-rich drink that we first had at the end of an insane meal (both insanely tasty and insanely large). They almost made me mad... they were super tasty, but I knew I should have stopped eating 20 minutes ago. The last time we had authentic Chocolate Shooters was at a memorial birthday party for him in Chicago. They taste like chocolate ice cream base with rum mixed in... very creamy, with a little air whipped in. So when Bob & Mike organized an online happy hour for his birthday this year (2020, mid-pandemic) and I decided to try my hand at a version.
Makes 2-6, depending on how large a glass you use :-)
3 oz whipping cream (3/8 c)
1 T sugar
2 oz rum (1/4 c)
2 oz milk (1/4 c)
1.5 oz chocolate sauce* (3 T)
Whip cream to soft peaks. Sprinkle on sugar and whip some more. Add rum, milk, and chocolate sauce and beat on low until combined.
*I used my favorite - Chocolate Sauce (Gin Niehage's) - it's in the Desserts section. If you've never made your own chocolate sauce, I encourage you to try... it's really easy and a million times better than Hershey's! |
